During June’s ROT (Republic of Texas) Rally, the Austin area witnessed three motorcycle related accidents. By the time the weekend was over, two people were dead.
The first accident occurred early Saturday morning just after midnight. A motorcyclist was struck and fatally injured near the intersection of West Koenig Lane and North Lamar Boulevard, according to Austin Police. No other details about the accident were available to the Austin American Statesman.
The second fatality occurred at 9:30 am on Saturday near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Walnut Avenue in East Austin. According to police, a driver of a Lexus sedan turned in front of the rider of the motorcycle. The rider, whose name has not been released to the public, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Lexus suffered non life threatening injuries, while the rider of the motorcycle was transported to Brackenridge Hospital where he later died.
In a separate incident, a 50 year old rider was killed while police say he tried to navigate a highway flyover. Although the driver was wearing a helmet at the time, after losing control of the vehicle, he suffered fatal injuries. Police have not released the location of the flyover where the driver was killed or any other details as of Monday.
